Okay, so after starting at Blockbuster, I was pretty dismayed to learn that I'd only be getting 12-15 hours a week on a regular basis. So, I kept looking for a better job, and I found one. Phone contact work (appointment setting), 32 hours a week to start with, $9.50/hr. Yay, right?
I thought so. I'm supposed to start at 9 this morning. It's about 8am now, and I haven't left yet. I tried, but upon boarding the first bus, was informed that the bus I'd need to transfer to in order to get to my building wouldn't make the connection I needed. For some unknown reason, it leaves the Davenport terminal at 8:40...and my bus, the one that takes me across the river, gets there at 8:43. From the call I placed to the bus company, Davenport buses sort of get there when they get there, and don't wait for connections.
It makes no sense to me. I mean, why on earth can't the drivers wait until all buses arrive, thus ensuring connections? Needless to say, I'm frustrated. I can make it to work, I'll just have to leave home an hour earlier and sit in downtown Davenport for about an hour to be able to catch it, but I can. Just not today, which, being my first day, is sort of important.
Lucky for me, my grandpa's a good guy and has agreed to run me over there for today. Which is good, the last thing I need is to lose this job before I start it. Still, though, the bus company sucks. I mean, I had the schedule beforehand, and it looked like it wouldn't be a problem. Then I find out that none of the buses match up, timewise. Fucking insane.
At least I'll get there, though. I just feel bad for my poor grandpa. We've been fighting a lot lately, mostly because he doesn't want me to go back to school. But he did agree to pay off ISU so I can get my transcript...which means that as of next December, I'll finally have my bachelor's degree. Happy? Very.
I'd better get ready to go, and apologize to him when he gets here. I was frustrated when I talked to him earlier and I think he thinks I was yelling at him. Bleh, I just kinda want the day to be over.
