I'm still trying to wrap my head around why it is that many lesbians see fit to tell me to "make up my mind," or that they won't consider dating me because they're afraid I'll "leave them for a man." Horseshit, folks. Just because I can be in relationships with both genders doesn't mean I "miss" the penis when not with a guy and feel that a woman is lacking in bed. Yet the majority of proud lesbians I've met like to catagorize me this way, as though I'm some kind of slut who has no idea what I want. I know what I want, thank you very much. I want a loving relationship with someone to whom I connect on an emotional, intellectual and physical level. I simply don't use genitalia as one of my requirements for this.
Cheating is a human thing, not a bisexual thing. Sure, there will be bisexuals who cheat, but I know of a great many lesbians and straight people who cheat as well. And I've never understood why it's sooooooo much worse for a lesbian to get left for a man than it is for a woman. If a lesbian's bisexual lover leaves her for another woman, is that somehow less heartbreaking? And if so, why?? Getting left for anyone is horrible, gender nonwithstanding.
And no, I have never "missed" something in bed with a woman. Being bisexual, I can have romantic and sexual relationships with both men and women...but never simultaneously, as that's gross and offensive to me. I'm a very monogamous person who abhors cheating and those who cheat, and quite frankly if I'm attracted to a woman, she's who I want to be with. Just because she doesn't have a phallus means nothing to me, and I find it offensive when lesbians tell me how I feel on the matter.
Biphobia really upsets me, largely due to the ignorance involved in it. Most genuine bisexuals I know of, who aren't in it for attention from drunken frat boys or to have an "adventure" with their husband or boyfriend, are simply looking for what we all are: a relationship with someone we care about. Obviously there will be bisexuals in open relationships with both men and women, but there are large numbers of both gay and straight people doing the same thing, only with their preferred gender. Cheating crosses all lines, and to peg a bisexual as a cheater on sight simply makes me sick. I really do feel sorry for those people who want to put every member of a distinct sexuality into a box. Life doesn't work like that, folks. Lesbians cheat too.
