Well, okay, not all the time. I just hate the fact that I lost out on a really good job because the damn public transportation system sucks. To make a long story short, I was contacted by the temp agency I'm signed up for about a job on Arsenal Island, starting at 6am Monday morning. That's all well and good, and there's a bus that goes out there at that time of day. I thought I was in the clear, until I realized that the first appearance of said bus is 5:45am at the downtown terminal...which I live nowhere near. Upon realizing this, I called the bus company to see if there was any way I could get a ride down to the terminal at, say, 5:30 or so. No such luck, the girl I spoke to said only that "we don't do anything like that." Well, fuck.
Normally I wouldn't have cared too much, but it's 15 minutes! There's no way I could afford to call a cab every morning to get down there on time. Dammit! I called the temp agency, because when the job was originally pitched to me it was from 7-3:30. Now that, I could certainly do. However, I didn't get a response. I did leave a message on the voicemail of the woman that called me, though, so I should be all right. I'll probably call tomorrow and leave a message on the main system just in case. There's just no way for me to get out there...they should be understanding of that, right?
The job sounded good, too. 8 bucks an hour to sit in front of a computer and highlight social security numbers. I could even listen to a headset the whole time.
It really looks like I might have to resort to fast food, which sucks, but I'm running out of options. Fuck, I really wanted this one. It seems unfair to me that because I don't drive, I'm denied so many opportunities. I'm really, really, really starting to seriously consider a move to NYC/Chicago.
