Winter weather
Dec. 22nd, 2007 10:11 pmI have to wonder sometimes about local newscasts. As of right now there's a winter storm warning in effect, which isn't surprising considering I live in the Midwest. It tends to snow and get cold here in winter, imagine that! But what I find funny is that I just watched the 10 o clock news, and for ten minutes straight, the anchors and reporters went on and on about it as if we're going to be snowed in for days.
Now, obviously a degree of caution is advisable. Still...it's a fucking snowstorm. They happen pretty often between December and March, so I can't figure out why this is being broadcast with such a sense of impending panic. Yeah, the roads might be unsafe for a few hours after the storm, but come on. Either drive safe or just don't go out until the crews get out there. Seriously, if you live in the midwest, you sort of have to expect this. Things will be fine, it's not the end of the world, etc.
I know I'm probably just being picky, but you'd think in a town in the heart of the midwest, people would be a little more used to this.
This just in: according to the newscast, "Travel is not advised. If you must be out, drive carefully if you go over anything slick." Um...ya think? I mean, I don't have a car so I don't drive regularly, but come on. Even I know this.
Really Papi? Really? It's now 16 minutes they've been going on and on about some snow falling. Jesus.
UPDATE: An entire INCH of snow fell overnight! What a disaster!
