I went out to the mailbox this morning as I often do on days other than Sunday, and found a bill from Lincoln College for the amount of $2,768.94. Now, this surprised the hell out of me, considering my grandparents made special trips to Normal last fall to pay that off in person. They were given receipts for it, and they still have those, although I was the one to pay the money as it was to my account. The school now has someone else in charge of Student Accounts, and the one that held the position when these were paid claims that she gave me the money and wrote out fake receipts "to be nice, as it was obvious you were hurting financially." Um, what? Yeah, because professionals often write out receipts for money that they didn't get. Sure they do.
I mean, I suppose I could work to pay it off if I really tried, but since it was already paid, I shouldn't have to. They threatened a lawsuit, which made me giggle because really, what judge will look at those receipts and find in their favor?
Bleh. Just what I need, trying to get my finances in order and having something like this thrown at me.
I really, really wish I'd never gone to that school to begin with. Egads.
