I'm a fatty
May. 3rd, 2007 11:01 ambut at least there's a reason behind it aside from my own admitted laziness. Apparently the new insulin my doc put me on last month isn't being metabolized well enough (or something like that), so pretty much everything I eat is being converted to fat. This also explains why I've been so incredibly sluggish lately (I'm not getting my nutrients!). I've gained over ten pounds since my last appointment, and am now sitting at a very bloated 164.5 pounds. (Yeah, it doesn't really sound like the end of the world, but I'm only 4'10").
I was curious, since I've radically changed my diet to include not much aside from brown rice, grapefruit, whole-grain bread, chicken breasts and veggies, with the occasional slip-up of course. I've had a couple bottles of Mountain Dew in the past month, but certainly not enough to balloon out the way I have. I also increased my exercise to at least 3 different sets of 200 stairs daily, with some arm work and walking thrown in too. Granted, I'm no bodybuilder, but that's pretty damn good for me. I'm lazy, but I've managed to stick to it so far, so you can imagine my concern when I gained weight from these changes rather than losing it.
The new insulin and the way it's being metabolized has also affected other things, namely my triglycerides. They're way too high, and they've always been fine before. I'm now on Lipitor to lower the cholesterol and something else to lower the tris, with another pill for liver protection thrown in.
Sigh. All things considered, I'd probably be in the same boat weight-wise if I'd never changed my diet at all and was still eating fast food once a week and drinking Mountain Dew like it was going out of style. Somehow, I feel better this way, though it's probably nothing more than a placebo effect. Oh well. I have an appointment with my nutritionist this afternoon, so maybe she can help me with the timing of certain foods to maximize their effects and possibly take some of this extra weight off. It's not like I'm trying to wind up at 95 pounds, but I think 125 is a decent goal for me. (I inherited my dad's muscle structure, so if I ever got down to 95 pounds I'd look like I was starving anyway. Damn muscle mass!) Blah. Oh yeah, I'm on my old insulin again. Sucks since it's older and not quite as "effective" as the new stuff is said to be, but at least I'm stable on it.
In other news, the gas station on the corner called earlier and asked me to come in for an interview, so yay. The pay's probably not too great, but I think the convenience of only having to walk a couple hundred feet to work will outweigh the lack of cash. Plus, this means I can work nights, so I can always pick up something else during the day.
