I really would have liked to start this on New Year's Day, but I figured that a bus trip to the other end of the country and back would be a complete fail in the diet regard so I just decided to start once I return. How's that for being lazy? Oh well.

Generally I find the idea of New Year's resolutions rather lacking, since I don't believe true change can be motivated by changing the calendar. Resolutions also tend to be based more on absolutes than on realistic hopes for improvement. Still, I do think making clear goals is beneficial, and what better time to start than right now?

long goals are long )

I have some more but can't really think enough to articulate them at the moment, and this thing is long enough already. :P

Exactly one year ago, I was sleeping on the floor of my girlfriend's bedroom, wondering how the hell I'd managed to get so lucky. I'm still wondering that, although she's my best friend again instead of my girlfriend and I have a bed to sleep in this time. :P

I was getting bored of my green storm layout, so I saved that one and made some changes. Yeah yeah, it's not like I did anything complicated or skilled but dammit I think it looks cool. :P

I'm getting a little better at this stuff. It doesn't scare me much anymore, so...progress!

I've been missing way too many days to attempt to catch up with the meme now. I do have a fairly short attention span for things that don't interest me...which makes me regret my master's degree choice even more. Oh well, the more I procrastinate on that the longer I'll receive government money to live abroad, which really amuses me to no end.

So, yeah. Some stressful things on the horizon but I think I can handle them all right. I'm actually a little excited about going south for a few days. I adore Pite but this wanderer is starting to get itchy feets a little bit. XD

I was asked by a friend online today what I would do if I were ludicrously wealthy. I really had to give it some thought because honestly, I'm quite happy with very little. I suppose it's one of the good things that comes from being a street kid, you learn to appreciate what you have. As long as I have food and medicine to sustain me I honestly don't care what else I have. Money's nice, obviously, but it's just paper and coins in the end.

Still...if I were a rich girl... )

This is a really hard one to come up with. I guess I'll go with storms. I love them. Always have, even as a little kid. When a tornado would come close and the wind sounded like a woman screaming I was always so happy and my dad had to pretty much corral me in the basement because I kept trying to get out and watch things blow down the street. I adore thunderstorms and think they're the most beautiful things in the world. They make me really happy and I get all excited when they happen. There aren't a lot of good things about where I'm from, but we do have some nice storms most years and I love every second of them. Always wanted to be a professional storm chaser...think the Twister movie, but not nearly as stupid. I don't know why I love them so much, but I do. They always give me a lot of energy and they're a total aphrodisiac.

Book: I find it far easier to name authors than books, save one. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas has been my favorite since I was 12, and I don't see that changing any time soon. It's just such an incredible novel. I also adore most anything by Tolkien, Rand, Salinger, Kerouac, etc. Big lit nerd.

Quote:
We must declare ourselves, become known; allow the world to discover this subterranean life of ours which connects kings and farm boys, artists and clerks. Let them see that the important thing is not the object of love, but the emotion itself.
Gore Vidal

I've pretty much based my life on this quote. Vidal is a brilliant man and I think what he says here applies to so many things. It just so happens to fit perfectly with my sexuality and the way I see the world, and really helped me when I was growing up bisexual in a world of straights and gays. It helped me to know that I have nothing to be ashamed of and that loving does not make me more or less, it just makes me human.

Has to be X-Files. Grew up watching it and boring my friends to tears talking about it. I also adore Seinfeld. I like TV and have a lot of shows that I get into, but these two will probably always be my favorites.

All time favorite will always be Casablanca, although What Dreams May Come is a close second. I also adore Zoolander if it wasn't already obvious. I'm quite a movie lover so I always seem to have a new favorite, but these three have stayed really high on the list for years now.

This one is hard to pin down, but I guess I'll have to go with Darren Hayes - Darkness because it's basically my life story, and Darren is such a remarkably beautiful person. Going back to my hillbilly roots on my daddy's side, I've loved Trace Adkins - Every Light in the House for years now. I have lots more, but these'll do for now! lol

and I just don't really care about finishing it anymore. I know it's bad of me, but I'd completed all the important tasks already and just couldn't make myself care enough about the remaining ones to update when I did complete them. So, I've removed the list from my sidebar. I'm proud of myself for completing the ones i did, since they were important to me, but the remaining ones just didn't seem worth it anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I still have goals. Quite a few, in fact. But things like watching 101 movies and reading 30 books for pleasure aren't really going to enhance my life in a significant way. I'm sure I'll make a new list in the future, but I think that working on it over a span of 1001 days is a bit long, especially considering that most people's goals change a lot during such a time period.

It's been fun and I'm very happy that I participated, and I'm glad that I accomplished what I did on the list. But I think it's time to move on from it now and set my sights on other, more meaningful goals.
